A great part of my childhood was spent in the back seat of my grandparents’ car trapped and tortured with conservative talk radio. Rush Limbaugh was the torture (even as a kid I could tell he was a pathetic blowhard) but Paul Harvey was pure comfort. His “The Rest Of The Story” segments were 5 minutes of this-ride-to-walmart-will-be-interesting. The short historical mysteries always excited my little brain and made me smile. His voice alone was a velvet hug, welcomed with open arms after having to listen to all the meanness spewing out of those car speakers. Goodbye old friend.
